Videos produced and edited for The new Arab
Alex worked for over two years as a Multimedia Journalist for The New Arab in London. He scripted, produced, edited, and sometimes shot short to long-form videos on pressing issues in the MENA region and beyond. During Israel’s war on Gaza, he worked closely with Palestinian journalists on the ground, and produced a series of videos with Emmy-nominated journalist Ahmed Shihab-Eldin that got millions of views on Instagram.
He covered many other major events in the region, including the women-led protests in Iran, major earthquakes in Turkey and Syria (from the perspective of a Syrian filmmaker), racist attacks against Black migrants in Tunisia, the efforts to save British-Egyptian political activist Alaa Abd el-Fattah from prison in Egypt, and the aftermath of the Beirut port explosion. His short documentary, “Germany’s Palestine Problem”, co-produced with Jad Salfiti, won Best Video at the WAN-IFRA Digital Media Awards Middle East 2023.
